Histological Effect of Gemcitabine on the Liver and Kidney of Male Rat with and without Melatonin

Background: the aim of this study is to identify toxic effect gemcitabine on kidney and liver tissues rat whether melatonin has any protective these tissues.
 MATERIALS AND METHODS: 32 adults male Wistar rats were selected divided into four groups. Group A was control group that received normal saline. B alone in a dose 25mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally once per week for successive weeks. C 25mg/ kg orally 10mg/kg D only weeks.
 RESULTS: The histological changes showed disorganization hepatic tissue with congestion portal area chronic inflammatory cells infiltration periportal area. Nuclei some hepatocytes vesicular steatosis. In sections cell mild pyknosis hepatocytes. Liver limited degeneration hepatocyte. Renal necrosis epithelial thickening blood vessel wall, thrombus formation cystic appearance interstitial detected. While swelling lining renal tubules vessels. more or less normal.
 CONCLUSION: present concluded induced may play organs.
